This guy could be VERY strong if built right. Its static effect is like a worse Graveborn Muse, but still a great effect. This is definitely super powerful.

I guess this guy is better if you want to go zombie aggro, but zombie aggro is far and away the worst way to build zombies in EDH.

This guy can bring back anything from any graveyard as a zombie. How is that not better than Gisa and Geralf that only target your graveyard once a turn?

That changes things a lot. Denying your opponents resources is a big deal in magic and especially commander. Stax as an archetype is proof of this.

Imagine playing this God against Meren. He attempts to use his trigger to reanimate a target, but you use your Gods ability in response to not only exile the creature he targeted, preventing him from ever abusing it again, but bring it over to your side of the table as well!

You literally steal a creature from your opponents yard, bring it over to yours, and prevent your opponent from ever using it again.

With this God, every creature card in every graveyard is a potential threat. The icing on the top of this beautiful cake is that fact that the God recurs himself.

Ignoring counterspells and well-timed Graveyard Exile you never pay commander tax on this guy. Hell, even if you do, how many times will an entire table both counterspell him and or exile your graveyard so consistently that you do end up paying a huge tax for him?

At least Karador has a way to reduce the cost of casting him during a game. You could easily assemble infinite combos with a tutor every turn.

And there are lots of ways to find her and put her into the graveyard. So, I think that if you are like me and hate playing or playing against combo decks or, like me, play in a casual meta , the The Scarab God is the best zombie commander.

This guy can also recur stuff at instant speed and can do so multiple times a turn, neither of which the Cecani twins can do.

They cater at different angles to the same crowd, but I still contend that The Scarab God has a higher potential power level in isolation. But I value having repeated access to powerful effects much higher than one-shots.

I have a problem. Yup, that pretty much sums up my Shirei deck. Meta speed, grave-hate, and general aggro level all play a role. Sure, but in general, aggro is just a much worse strategy than combo or midrange, even in casual metas, because of how the format scales.

Also, if your meta is full of graveyard hate, any zombie build is gonna be kinda bad, because even the most aggro zombie builds have some amount of graveyard interaction.

Why is everyone talking about Zombie tribal though? This card screams "draw-go" to me. Might have to make some accommodations and switch over Chainer to this.

Adding blue gives decent access to a few counters, rift, etc. Exiling on activation makes some of the wincons in Chainer a bit more difficult as well, as recurring kokusho and Gary is really limited to only once.

Pretty interesting card that you can build in a lot of different directions. The obvious one is straight tribal but I actually think going a reanimator route is probably just better.

Here is a quick list I made up after seeing it. I based it off of my Chainer list, with a bit of blue for security. It is all about recurring value with etb effects.

It is a bit lighter in sac effects as I think they will be a bit less needed, and there is a bit more focus on life gain with exquisite blood.

He could be your "hidden commander" if you like. I do not know if you are familiar with the concept, but usually you hear people talk about hidden commanders such as five color [[Marchesa the Black Rose]] or five color [[Nekusar]], where the card your deck revolves around is not the actual commander but instead is hidden in the Usually I think it is not really worth it to play these kind of deck, but in this case these gods have recursion already built-in, which could make great candidates to be played as hidden commanders.

He is great support for sidisi imo: Drain with your zombie tokens, scry for a ton, generate tokens, copy a creature from any graveyard. He is not in sultai however and there is just too much power in GB so I wil run sidisi over this guy any day.

I love how "loud" he is and how he focuses directly on card quality over self-mill. By loudness I mean everyone will go after you, and thats not such a bad thing because you will being drawing the best, have the highest life, and hopefully lots and lots of zombies.

I have lost games before due to opponents dying and subsequently losing creatures reanimated from their gy. I would use cryptic cruiser for sure! While it is a bit of mana, it does give a way to repeatedly recur.

Oracle of dust is probably a bit better actually with no colour investment for the ability. Do I build around because he looks awesome and fun, or do I shove into Tasigur because of the 4 mana clause?

The thing is that storm and combo are simply more powerful archetypes than zombie tribal, so commanders like Oona and Dralnu that benefit those archetypes are almost always going to be considered the best.

I think the problem with the word best is that it is relative. When I say best commander I think, the most people who can have fun with them.

Which I would argue is a fair way to look at it but best as in strongest is also a very easy way to look at a card. Atraxa is not the strongest commander but the community would probably rate it is as the best commander in terms of flexibility.

Enabling a large number of archetypes is a strong factor. A quick look at edhrec says that the Dimir commanders are very narrow in terms of options, and maybe flexibility is worth something.

There are plenty of powerful legends that are boring and linear as fuck and plenty of less powerful legends that lead to much more interesting decks.

Kefnet is objectively a strong card, but also objectively boring and lacks any real identity other than other draw-go control deck.

Hezort is objectively weaker but will result in an extremely unique deck when built around that is distinct from other mono-red decks.
